MEMORANDUM

FROM: Pastor Jose H. Cortes Jr.

Director of Adventist Youth Ministries

TO: Adventist Youth Society Leaders

Greater New York Conference of the Seventh-dayAdventistChurch

DATE: October 19, 2006

SUBJECTS: (1) InterHope 20/30 on November 4, (2) Last Big Event of the Year for Adventist Youth Ministries on December 2, (3) Adventist Youth Evangelism & Leadership Congress, January 19-21, 2007, (4) Fundraising Concert for the Pathfinders going to the South Pacific Division Camporee on November 19, (5) Pray for José III

1. InterHope 20/30 (November 4 @ Church of the Advent Hope @ 7:00 PM): This special event has been prepared exclusively for College, University Students, and Young Adults (18-35), the atmosphere is excellent to bring fellow students, who are not Adventists.

InterHope 20/30 is a 1 hour and 15 minutes spiritual program; followed by a mixer or social, which include food (free food) and games. Our first InterHope 20/30 was well attended; this is an excellent opportunity for our young adults, whether professionals or students to get closer to God, and also for them to get to meet each other in an Adventist atmosphere.

This is the last InterHope 20/30 of 2006. The following one after this one will take place at the end of January. The AdventHopeSeventh-dayAdventistChurch is located at: 111 E. 87th Street, New York NY 10128.

Please post attached Mini-Poster in your church’s bulletin board.

2. Last Big Event of the Year for Adventist Youth Ministries (December 2 @ Salvation Army Auditorium, Manhattan): On this day, we will have the Consecration, Investiture, and Graduation Services for our Adventist Youth Leadership Certification and Master Guide Candidates. This will take place at the Salvation Army Centennial Auditorium, a super beautiful and elegant hall with capacity for over 1,500 people.

For this occasion we are inviting all of our Teens, Young Adults, College, University Students, Adventist Youth Society Leaders and Members to attend. We are also inviting each Master Guides, and all our Pathfinder, and Adventurer clubs to attend. The program will begin at 9:45 AM, with SabbathSchool, and it will continue at 11:00 AM with the Consecration Service. The Adventist Youth Leadership Graduation, which is a first in our Conference and I believe in the world, because this is a new program, and the Master Guide Investiture will begin at 4:00 PM.

We advise that everyone attending will come early to secure a seat. We are also requesting that anyone coming for the entire day brings a sack lunch (sandwiches, fruits, etc; please, nothing which needs to be warmed). Food will not be provided, but there will be space available to eat, outside of the sanctuary.

The best way to get there is through the Subway, for anyone driving, there is parking in the street, and private parking, as well. Someone there told me that the Adventists have never filled up the auditorium; I don’t know whether that’s true or false; please promote this event heavily in your church, so we can have our last Adventist Youth Ministries Event of the year overflowing with young people, as we usually do. The address of the Salvation Army Auditorium is: 120 West 14th Street, New York, NY10011

Please post attached Mini-Poster in your church’s bulletin board.

3. Adventist Youth Evangelism & Leadership Congress (January 19-21, 2007 @ Tranquil Valley Retreat Center, New Jersey): During 2007 the Adventist Youth Ministries Department of our Conference will focus especially on Evangelism. The format of our calendar will change a bit, as well. This is the reason why, rather than having an Orientation at the beginning of the year, and a Leadership Retreat in March; we will have an Adventist Youth Evangelism & Leadership Congress at the beginning of the year.

With this new initiative, we will still train the experienced leaders; give orientation to the new ones; provide the materials and calendars for the year; and besides that we will add a strong Evangelistic Component to the program, because we would like to make sure that, not only our leaders, but also our teens and young adults are able to lead people to Christ, conduct Small Group Bible Studies, and do public preaching.

Though, our Conference Calendar still needs to be voted, we are targeting the January 19-21, 2007 date for our

I Adventist Youth Evangelism & Leadership Congress. All of the information will be coming to you very soon. There will be additional information and rates of the hotels in the area, for anyone who prefers the comfort of a hotel, over the camp situation.

Adventist Youth Society Leaders, Teen Small Group Leaders, Young Adult and Collegiate Ministry Leaders, Youth Choirs Leaders, Bible Bowl coaches and participants, Youth Elders, and youth and young adults from your church must attend this Congress. Set the date apart and begin to make preparations for this big event coming to Greater New York.

4. Fundraising Concert for the Pathfinders going to Australia’s South Pacific Division Camporee (November 19 @ Grand Concourse Seventh-day Adventist Church): The concert is sponsored by the Grand Concourse Church and its Young Adult Choir, and the purpose is to raise funds for the group of Pathfinders who are planning to participate in the South Pacific Division Camporee. The time for the concert is 3:30 PM and the donation is $10.00. For more information, please call (917) 952-0016 or lopeznny@aol.com.

5. Pray for José III: Joanne and I would like to solicit your prayers for our son, Jose III, who has been diagnosed with an inguinal hernia. His doctors say he needs surgery, we visited the surgeon yesterday and he agreed. We have always trusted the power of prayer and we still want to pray to see if God cures him and the surgery is avoided. Please, keep him in your prayers.
